- The UK will officially rejoin the European Union's Erasmus plus student exchange scheme from 1 January 2027, the Government has confirmed.
- Applications will open this November for individuals and institutions to participate in study, training, and work experience opportunities across the EU.
- The scheme will be open to a wide range of participants beyond university undergraduates, including further education students, apprentices, school groups, and educational staff.
- More than 100,000 people are expected to benefit from the return to the programme, which replaces the Turing Scheme introduced after Brexit.
- Foreign Office minister Hamish Falconer described the reassociation as a concrete step towards building a closer relationship with the EU following Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's reset deal.
