Dates to know ahead of the two upcoming eclipses in Europe

  • A 35-day "eclipse season" is currently underway, featuring two significant celestial events in August.
  • A total solar eclipse will occur on 12 August, with its path of totality stretching from Greenland down to Spain.
  • A partial lunar eclipse, visible across Europe, Africa, North and South America, will take place on the night of 27-28 August.
  • This lunar eclipse will see over 96 per cent of the Moon enter Earth's shadow, creating a “blood moon” effect, and is considered the best until December 2028.
  • Additionally, the Perseid meteor shower, capable of producing up to 100 shooting stars per hour, will peak on 12 August.
