In an emotional moment that touched many hearts, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah of Pahang struggled to hold back tears while discussing his daughter’s forthcoming wedding. The poignant scene unfolded during a ceremonial event held on the evening of August 20, 2024.

As Sultan Abdullah spoke about the marriage of his daughter, Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafidzatullah, the weight of his emotions became evident. The Sultan, visibly choked up, was unable to continue his speech, leading to his son, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, stepping in to finish the address.

In his heartfelt message, the Sultan conveyed his hopes for a joyful and blessed wedding ceremony. "May the event proceed smoothly and be filled with blessings, and may the bond formed last until the afterlife, Insha Allah," he said, his voice breaking as he wiped away tears. Tengku Hassanal continued, reading the rest of the Sultan's message, which also included prayers for the continued safety and prosperity of Pahang and its people.

The upcoming royal wedding, scheduled to take place from August 22 to 25, will be a grand affair, with live broadcasts planned from key locations in Kuantan, including Tasek Kotasas and Padang MBK 1.

Beyond the personal significance of the event, Sultan Abdullah also took the opportunity to address broader issues affecting the community. He urged Muslims in the state to deepen their understanding of Islamic teachings according to the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah school of thought. He stressed the importance of relying on trusted sources like muftis and the Pahang Islamic Religious Department to clarify any religious uncertainties.

The Sultan expressed concern over the resurgence of teachings previously deemed deviant by fatwa committees. He warned against the revival of such teachings despite their clear rejection by established religious authorities.

In his address, Sultan Abdullah also highlighted the role of mosques in addressing social issues. He called for mosques to become centers of knowledge and moral guidance rather than sources of conflict. He encouraged mosques to be proactive in promoting well-being and health awareness, reinforcing their role as pillars of community support and ethical development.

This blend of personal reflection and public concern showcased the Sultan’s deep commitment to both his family and his role as a leader. The heartfelt nature of his speech and the subsequent actions by his son underscored the significance of the royal wedding and the broader responsibilities of leadership in Pahang.

The poignant moment captured during the event has resonated widely, reflecting the Sultan’s genuine emotions and his dedication to his state and its people.
