Come January 2024, Malaysia will have a new king. The present sultan of Johore, Sultan Ibrahim will be installed as the 17th king of Malaysia. And he has vowed to eradicate corruption in Malaysia as one of his key priorities. I am sure the righteous in Malaysia would like to see this happen real soon. We have suffered enough troubles because of corruption that has festered and grown through the decades.
Eradication of corruption is definitely not an easy task but should I say not impossible? With both the 10th Prime Minister and the 17th Agung on the same page, it will certainly expediate the works. So, let us pray for such a miracle to take place fast so that Malaysia can be restored to her former glory – a unity of diverse communities, a stable environment for the economy to grow and prosper and respect and tolerance for all. Indeed, it would be great to be Bangsa Malaysia!
Maybe all of us must get acquainted with our coming king, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar. Born in 1958, I am sure he can remember the good old days of Malaysia where people of all races mixed freely with great respect for one another’s beliefs and cultures. Those were the days of tolerance as each people group contributed to the building of the nation. Our future king is known to be strict, no-nonsense man, yet very understanding. As the sultan of Johore, he has shown his heart in prioritizing the welfare of his subjects, the Johoreans. So, can I also say that with his new role as the king of Malaysia, he will now have the welfare of all Malaysians in his heart?
Well, we the rakyat definitely wish both our next king and our prime minister all the wisdom and courage to work hand to hand to fight one common enemy – corruption. When righteousness rules, the people will all rejoice! And not forgetting our present king – Thank you for serving the country. Your five years as the 16th king has not been enviable but you have stepped in with your fellow rulers to solve many issues for the betterment of Malaysia.
