P-Pop group Ayo prepares for their official debut following their pre-debut single “I’m Him.” The Davao-based group consists of Renzo, GV, TJ, Enzo, Zack, and Patrick.
In an interview with Music Geek, Ayo described their music as bold, dynamic, and unapologetically authentic. “Our music aims to inspire people to be confident, embrace their individuality, and break free from societal expectations instead of simply following the norm,” they said.
“We’re proud to represent Davao and show that great talent can come from anywhere in the Philippines.”
“I’m Him” is a powerful introduction to the group’s fearless energy that celebrates self-confidence and embraces one’s uniqueness. “We hope that whenever people hear the song, they feel empowered to express themselves freely and become the best version of themselves without seeking validation from others,” they said.
While producer Pao Lofranco led the songwriting and production, Ayo members also helped shape the song’s message and identity, incorporating Bisaya lyrics as a tribute to their roots. “We believe that Ayo should reflect who we truly are, which is why we really want to be involved in songwriting, choreography, and other creative decisions,” they shared.
Diving deeper into the group’s chemistry, Ayo shared that they have different skills and lean on each other’s strengths. For instance, GV excels in dancing and assists with the choreography. They rely on Enzo during production and TJ to flag missed notes, allowing the group to maximize each member’s strengths.
Joining the promising lineup of P-Pop artists, Ayo aspires to showcase their distinct sound. “We don’t want to limit ourselves creatively. But right now, we’re really leaning toward hip-hop and R&B since those genres best represent our style and the kind of music we enjoy performing,” they added.
As they prepare for their debut with Sony Music Entertainment, they’re excited to present a bolder, stronger version of Ayo. Looking ahead, they stated, “Our pre-debut single was powerful, but it is only the beginning and a glimpse of what we as Ayo have to offer.”
Q: Can you introduce each member and the role they play within the group?
A: Ayo has six members. TJ is our main vocalist and the youngest member of the group. Patrick is our lead vocalist and dancer. GV is our main rapper and dancer, and he also creates some of our choreography. Zack is our rapper and dancer. Enzo is one of our vocalists and helps us mix and edit our songs because he has experience in music production. Renzo is our all-around member because he can sing, dance, and perform in different roles.
Q: Who are your dream collaborators, in the Philippines or internationally?
A: There are a lot of great artists, local and international, that we dream of collaborating with, both fellow P-Pop groups like Bini, Kaia, Alamat, and amazing solo acts like Bruno Mars and Sarah Geronimo, but at the top of our heads we can say SB19 for sure. As we are blessed to be under the same label, Sony Music Entertainment, we look forward to learning a lot from them in the future, especially when it comes to music and artistry.
Q: What do you hope listeners feel or take away after hearing your music?
A: We hope our listeners would feel more confident and empowered to be themselves. We want our music to be the reminder that they don’t have to fit into anyone else’s expectations. We also want them to have the courage to embrace their individuality and be unapologetically themselves.
