David de Gea offered Antonin Kinsky public support after the Tottenham goalkeeper endured a brutal Champions League night against Atletico Madrid.

The former Manchester United stopper knows better than most how unforgiving the position can be when mistakes come early.

That is why his message to the young Spurs goalkeeper carried real weight after a night that quickly spiralled out of control.

David de Gea sends message to Antonin Kinsky after Atletico Madrid nightmare

David de Gea on X reached out after Kinsky’s difficult evening in the first leg, with the veteran goalkeeper reminding him how hard the role can be when things go wrong.

“No one who hasn’t been a goalkeeper can understand how difficult it is to play in this position. Keep your head up and you will go again,” de Gea wrote.

The message landed after Kinsky’s first Champions League appearance for Tottenham turned into a painful one.

For a young goalkeeper still building his reputation at the top level, support from someone with De Gea’s experience was a significant gesture. It also reflected how isolated goalkeepers can feel when a bad night unfolds in front of millions.

Antonin Kinsky’s UCL display vs Atletico Madrid quickly unravelled

Kinsky’s night against Atletico Madrid went wrong almost immediately, with Tottenham eventually falling to a 5-2 defeat in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

He conceded three goals and was substituted after just 17 minutes, with two poor clearances that helped Atletico seize control early.

The scale of the defeat only made the individual errors feel harsher, especially with Tottenham trying to stay alive in a knockout tie away from home.

Kinsky now has the difficult task every goalkeeper eventually faces, putting one awful night behind him and responding in the next game.
