Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) is reviewing the condition for allowing Lintasan Deasoka for public use following a student protest held there last weekend that supposedly involved the use of petrol, a hazardous item.

The protest, organised by Suara Mahasiswa UMS, included burning an image of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that reportedly nearly set one of the protestors on fire.

Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said the act may have involved petrol, which could leave physical marks or affect surface conditions.

He said although the group reportedly cleaned the area after the event, DBKK is verifying whether the location has been returned to its original state.

“A technical team is carrying out an assessment to check for any structural or surface damage.

“If there is any damage to public property, DBKK will act according to the law,” Sabin said, after launching a rodent control campaign at Central Market, Wednesday.
