A special operation by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) yesterday (4 February) resulted in 14 compound notices being issued to photographers around popular tourist spots.

In a statement, DBKL said the operation focused specifically on Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee.

DBKL issues 14 notices to photographers and seizes 6 equipment for operating without permits

During the Special Photography Enforcement Operation, photographers without valid permits were issued compound notices under UUK 3(1) of the 2026 Kuala Lumpur Hawker Licensing By-Laws.

In addition, six pieces of equipment used by foreign photographers carrying out photography without permission were seized.

“DBKL will continue to monitor and enforce regulations in public areas to make sure city rules are followed and the safety and well-being of residents are protected,” the statement read.

KLCC photographer tried to charge local woman RM650 for photos

Recently, we reported that a Malaysian content creator was nearly charged RM650 by a photographer in the KLCC area for 65 photos taken.

The woman later said she ended up paying RM50 for seven photos, admitting she was fully aware she was stepping into what she called a “tourist trap.”
