DBKL took action and issued compounds to 5 F&B premises for marginalising the national language – Bahasa Melayu on their signboards.

In a Facebook post, DBKL said the premises violated the Advertisement Bylaws (WP) 1982 by marginalising the national language on their billboards. Even though the rule was introduced long ago, premises around Bukit Bintang still ignore it.

“There are still people who don’t understand or pretend to forget about the importance of Bahasa Melayu. It’s okay, we’ll help remind them with compound and enforcement notices.”

DBKL said they have given the owners of the premises involved 14 days to take down Chinese-written billboards around Jalan Imbi.

“They have 14 days to take down the billboards, or we’ll take action.”

Where else do you think DBKL should go to enforce this rule?
