Amidst the hectic search mission for the sinkhole victim, DBKL officers also carried out their due diligence by paying a visit to a few places in Bukit Bintang, including Lalaport Mall where they have since shut down a few premises.
In a Facebook post last night (August 28), DBKL revealed that 4 business premises in Lalaport Shopping Mall and other areas in Bukit Bintang were told to close for violating the license conditions. Some businesses also did not have valid business licenses and employed foreigners.
During the operations, a total of 18 compounds were issued.
At Lalaport alone, a total of 8 compounds were issued under the Food Premises Licensing Act (WPKL) 2016, the Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing Act (WPKL) 2016, and the Advertising Act (WPKL) 1982.
In the meantime, 10 compound notices were issued during the same operation against massage parlours around Bukit Bintang Parliament.
“DBKL will continue taking action and monitoring from time to time in specific locations that have been identified,” the organisation said in the post.

Social media users were glad to see DBKL taking action against vendors who violated the rules, and many suggested DBKL visit other hotspots to crack down on illegal businesses, some of which are run by foreigners.
“Go raid the area in Setapak. The vendors happily set up tables at the parking spots. Those near Mali’s Corner and Bangkok Street are the hotspots.”
“Please come down to Jalan Kenanga more often. It’s like Dhaka, Bangladesh now.”
“Please continue doing so to preserve the good image of our city. Eliminate the illegal vendors. This isn’t Jakarta, Dhaka or Delhi where anyone is free to run their businesses.”

“DBKL, please come to Kepong. There are a lot of dirty stalls run by foreigners without valid licenses.”
