
Kota Kinabalu: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sabah Branch launched 22 new books written by 28 local writers.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said DBP Sabah’s efforts to find potential and feature local writers in the national book industry would continue to be supported.
“It is in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya initiative which is to lift Sabah towards civilisation through the knowledge culture based on reading, creation of masterpieces and high-level language proficiency.
“In addition, this effort is vital in the development of a nation and dignity of our literary world, especially for writers in Sabah,” he said.

Hajiji’s speech was delivered by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Arif at the opening ceremony of Semarak Bahasa Carnival 2023 and the Launch of New Books by Sabah Writers Published by DBP Year 2022/2023, Tuesday.
In the meantime, Hajiji also urged local authorities to consider giving the names of streets or buildings in conjunction with the names of literary figures and writers recognition of their services.
The books launched include Melawan Kebiasan written by Hasyuda Abadi, Tekad Sumayyah by Laila Elok, Before Finding Dreams by Mohilis, Sihir Pendeng by Witer Gunik, Song of the Sabah Rungus People by Raymond Majumah and Bagai Kelekatu by Kims Diwa.
The Semarak Bahasa 2023 Carnival will be held on October 17 and 18 at the DBP Sabah Branch with a variety of programmes, including Storytelling Ádikku’ Competition, Special Book Sale at the DBP warehouse, workshops and exhibitions, among others.
Also present were Deputy Secretary (Development) Datuk Dr. Ahmed Sade, Director of the Sabah Language and Library Council Aminah Awang Basar and Third National Literary, Sukor Usin.
