- The Eurocopter EC 135 P2, operated by REACH Air Medical Services, was carrying a pilot, nurse, patient, and two others when it went down shortly after takeoff.
- Emergency responders and the U.S. Coast Guard launched search-and-rescue efforts after receiving reports of the crash shortly before 8 p.m.
- Officials reported that the helicopter is submerged in 240 feet of water approximately 22 miles off the coast of mainland Los Angeles County.
- The National Transportation Safety Board is preparing to investigate the cause of the crash once recovery operations are complete.
