Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said district engineers and road maintenance engineers along with the road concessionaires must monitor the condition of the roads under their care.
He said reports of requirements should always be updated and the need for additional allocations if it becomes a constraint to the work requirements.
“The Kg Jaya Baru road is included in the Pan Borneo Highway project for upgrading expected to start this year.
“The structure of this road is indeed decrepit and can only be restored by carrying out major upgrading work (through implementing the Pan Borneo Highway project).
“Wet weather conditions due to the rainy season with high traffic volumes continue to pressure road structures that have long exceeded their design period limits (weakness).
“Nevertheless, while waiting for the start of the Pan Borneo Highway package, the PWD through the appointed concessionaire has been instructed to carry out related maintenance and repair work,” he said.
