Kuala Lumpur: A Sabah family grieving the death of their one-month-old son will not have to bear the cost of bringing him home, after the Sabah State Liaison Office in Kuala Lumpur (PPNSKL) stepped in to help.
Lavner Loel Leroy, son of Leroy Golibot from Kampung Minodung, Tambunan, passed away on May 19 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) from cardiac complications.
He was just a month and 24 days old.
The infant had been referred from Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in Kota Kinabalu to IJN on May 13 for specialised heart treatment.
His family made the long journey to Kuala Lumpur in hope. After several days in critical condition, the boy did not survive.
The PPNSKL was informed of the death the same day and immediately took charge of all documentation and logistical arrangements, bearing the full expense of sending Lavner’s remains from IJN back to his family in Tenom for burial.
The PPNSKL said they acted to ensure the family, already carrying the weight of losing a newborn child, would not be burdened further during the most difficult days of their lives.
The office extended its condolences to the family and hopes they would find the strength to face the days ahead.
Additionally, the PPNSKL said welfare assistance of this nature reflects its commitment to standing by Sabahans in Peninsular Malaysia when they need it most.
