
THE death toll from the combined effects of storms Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon has risen to 23, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.
The NDRRMC said 17 people were injured, while three others remained missing.
Benguet had the highest number of fatalities at 15, with 10 in Baguio City, three in Atok and two in La Trinidad. All 15 deaths were attributed to landslides.
Rizal recorded three deaths, including two in Rodriguez due to a rockslide and one in Antipolo due to a fallen tree.
Batangas also recorded three fatalities: one in Batangas City due to drowning, one in Lipa City due to electrocution, and one in Santa Teresita due to a landslide.
The other fatalities were recorded in La Union and Quezon.
In La Union, one person drowned in Luna, and another drowning incident was reported in Candelaria, Quezon.
The NDRRMC reported 17 injuries, including 12 in Benguet, two in Abra, and one each in Ilocos Sur, Rizal and Cavite.
Three people remained missing in Batangas, including one in Batangas City.
The rains affected 1,410,800 families, or 4,903,086 people, in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula, as well as the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Calabarzon, the National Capital Region (NCR) and Mimaropa.
The NDRRMC said 407 evacuation centers had been activated, sheltering 9,101 families or 31,456 people.
The disasters also damaged 1,667 houses and destroyed 178.
Infrastructure damage was estimated at P3.36 billion, and agricultural losses at P689.66 million.
Government agencies and other responders have provided P654.59 million worth of assistance to affected communities.
