Death Toll of Tour Van Crash in Genting Highlands Rises To 7

The death toll of the tour van crash on Jalan Genting Highlands has risen to seven.

Earlier, six victims, including the driver died at the scene. The seventh victim was the co-driver who died while being treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Pahang Police Chief, Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said that two of the deceased were men, the driver and the co-driver.

“The other five who died were women and they were passengers in the tour van.”

He added that seven more injured victims are currently being treated in hospitals with two at Bentong Hospital and five more at HKL.

The accident

Ramli said the tour van was believed to be on its way back from Genting Highlands to Penang, but investigation is still ongoing.

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Pahang in a statement informed that the accident report was received at 1.15pm, February 8, 2023.

According to the statement, a total of 14 individuals boarded the van, consisting of 12 women and two men.

The van involved is believed to have skidded and hit a road barrier resulting in the death of seven of the passengers.
