Decision to accept MIC as a PN member void, no longer relevant – Takiyuddin
THE decision to accept MIC as a member of Perikatan Nasional (PN) is now no longer relevant and void following the absence of confirmation from the party to join the coalition.
PN Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, said the matter was decided at the PN Supreme Council meeting held on Saturday.
"To date, MIC has not given a final decision to join PN as a member party, made on December 9, 2025, despite being asked to do so several times.
"Due to the lack of confirmation, in addition to MIC's statement that it has never made an official application to join PN, it is determined that the decision to accept MIC as a member party made previously is unfortunately no longer relevant and void," he said in a statement.
It was earlier reported that MIC had not yet finalised any decision for the party to join PN.
In a similar development, Takiyuddin announced that the coalition was ready to face the upcoming general election with the existing support, including experience in and out of government before and after the 15th General Election (GE15).
According to him, PN was also open to exploring electoral cooperation or a pact with any party that shared the same principles and vision, as well as being interested in becoming a strategic partner of PN without becoming a component party.
A special Committee consisting of representatives of the parties in PN would be established to detail the terms and conditions of the political cooperation.
"This approach is believed to be more in line with the reality of the country's political landscape, in addition to supporting the importance of constructive political cooperation for the sake of national stability and the well-being of the people.
"It is also seen to open up space for all parties to actively participate in the country's political process in a more meaningful and healthy way through an official, mature and orderly national political cooperation," he added. – May 18, 2026
