Negeri Sembilan MB declares a move to depose the state ruler as invalid, citing the signatory’s prior dismissal and constitutional procedures

SEREMBAN: The state government does not recognise a declaration seeking to depose the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun stated the action by Datuk Mubarak Dohak is invalid.

Aminuddin clarified that Mubarak no longer holds any authority as the Undang Luak Sungei Ujong. He said the declaration is inconsistent with the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.

Mubarak’s dismissal as the Datuk Klana Petra was effected last May. This followed the customs and traditions of the Telaga Undang, Waris Klana Hulu.

The state’s Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) agreed to this dismissal during a special sitting. The sitting was held on April 17.

Aminuddin explained the DKU functions as an advisory body on Malay customs. This includes matters related to the appointment and removal of the four Undang Luak.

“The acceptance by the DKU of the dismissal of a Datuk Undang Luak in Negeri Sembilan has precedent,” he said. He cited the 2016 dismissal of the 14th Undang Luak Johol.

The DKU formally accepted Mubarak’s dismissal last Friday. The special sitting was presided over by Tuanku Muhriz at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

Aminuddin said the ruler invoked Clause 24 of the state constitution for the sitting. This involved inviting the Ibu Soko Klana Hulu and the Waris Klana Hulu to attend.

The dismissal was based on 33 offences related to local customs. These were detailed under Clause 14(3) of the state constitution.
