Panic spread in Ganesh Vihar locality on Gulabgarh Road in Zirakpur when the decomposed body of a man was found behind a house. Surprisingly, the body had been lying in the residential area for several days, but had gone noticed.
The matter came to light when residents reported smelling a strong odour for two consecutive days. The police arrived at the scene and took possession of the body, following which it was placed in the Civil Hospital mortuary.
According to police officials, the body’s condition was so degraded that it was impossible to identify it. It is being suspected that the body may be several days old.
The incident has raised questions about security in the area. Locals said the fact that a corpse was lying in a residential area for days and no one knew anything about it has created an atmosphere of fear among residents.
