‘Deeply troubling’ rise in antisemitic incidents at UK universities

  • Reports of antisemitic incidents at UK universities remain significantly higher than levels before October 7 2023, according to new figures from the Community Security Trust.
  • The charity recorded 83 incidents in the 2024/25 academic year and 95 in 2025/26, compared to 53 incidents recorded in 2022/23.
  • Two incidents of extreme violence were logged at universities in Edinburgh and Leeds during 2024/25, marking the first time such severe attacks have been recorded on campuses by the charity.
  • University staff were responsible for 16 incidents over two years, raising concerns about authority figures influencing students and making victims feel unable to report abuse.
  • Education Secretary Lucy Powell described the findings as deeply troubling and called on universities to maintain a zero-tolerance approach to antisemitism.
