Recently, a second-year cadet officer at the Military Training Academy (ALK), National Defense University (UPNM), Sungai Besi, is believed to have been a victim of bullying and abuse.
The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) confirmed the incident and detailed how the victim was pressed with an iron on the chest, resulting in burn marks.
The student will be expelled from the university
In a recent update, BERNAMA reported that the cadet who used a hot steam iron on a junior has been charged in court and could face penalties.
Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin shared that the Investigation Board has wrapped up its probe, and they’ll be deciding on the cadet’s punishment today.
He added that the Ministry isn’t taking the matter lightly and will take firm action, which could mean expelling the cadet from the programme.
He would have to repay all financial support he received
Khaled said the Ministry will also be asking for the student to repay all financial support given during his time as a cadet at ALK-UPNM.
Khaled added that the Ministry is transparent when it comes to bullying cases and will fully cooperate with the police in any investigations into these actions.
“We’ll work with everyone on this because we (the Ministry of Defence) have limited penalties, with the most severe being expulsion from the cadet program,” he said.
The said student was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine, or whipping, or any 2 of these punishments if found guilty.
