Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirms military chiefs’ retirements are due to age requirements, not connected to MACC drug smuggling investigation.
KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has clarified that the impending retirements of two senior military leaders are unrelated to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Ops Sohor investigations.
“It has nothing to do with the investigations,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
Mohamed Khaled confirmed that Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaafar and Defence Intelligence director-general Lt Gen Datuk Mohd Razali Alias are retiring due to mandatory age requirements.
Both generals will reach 60 years old next year, making them eligible for mandatory retirement.
The minister was responding to a news portal report that linked their retirements to the arrest of 10 individuals, including military officers, in a drug-smuggling case last August.
According to an official source, Mohd Nizam is scheduled to begin leave on January 1, 2026 before his mandatory retirement in August.
Mohd Razali will retire in December next year.
The clarification comes amid ongoing MACC investigations into the drug smuggling case that resulted in multiple arrests. – Bernama
