THE Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has ordered the Malaysian Armed Forces to conduct an urgent internal investigation after allegations circulated on social media claiming that unauthorised individuals had entered a military camp and were involved in immoral activities.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Defence Ministry’s Strategic Communications Unit said the investigation aims to comprehensively determine the authenticity of the claims, which have drawn widespread public attention online.
“The allegations being circulated do not reflect the culture, values and actual practices of the Malaysian Armed Forces, which are founded on discipline, professionalism and strict adherence to security procedures,” the statement said.
“The ministry views this matter seriously and if investigations find that the allegations are true, firm action will be taken without compromise against any party involved in accordance with existing regulations, procedures and laws,” it added.
The ministry also urged the public not to engage in speculation or reach premature conclusions that could mislead the public and damage the reputation of the Ministry of Defence and the Malaysian Armed Forces.
“The Ministry of Defence and the Malaysian Armed Forces remain committed to ensuring that the discipline, integrity and professionalism of defence personnel are maintained at the highest level, and will not tolerate any conduct that could undermine the image and credibility of the nation’s defence institutions,” the statement said.
In a separate clarification reinforcing the earlier statement, the ministry reiterated that it “does not reflect the culture, values and actual practices of the Malaysian Armed Forces, which are founded on high discipline, professionalism and strict compliance with security procedures”.
“The Ministry of Defence will not compromise on any breach of discipline,” it said.
“If investigations find that these allegations are well-founded, firm action will be taken against any party involved in accordance with applicable regulations, procedures and laws.
“In the meantime, the public is advised not to make any speculation or premature conclusions that could confuse society and harm the reputation of the Ministry of Defence and the Malaysian Armed Forces,” it added.
