Defense leaves Duterte's alleged sub judice violation to Senate impeachment court

MANILA, Philippines  — The Defense team on Wednesday said that it is up to the Senate impeachment court to determine whether Vice President Sara Duterte violated the sub judice rule after she issued a statement on the fifth day of the impeachment trial.

On Tuesday, Duterte maintained that the impeachment complaint involving her alleged assassination plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former Speaker Martin Romualdez is not supported by evidence.

"That's up to the court to decide. I will not comment on that matter," " Defense spokesman Michael Poa said during a press conference.

"The vice president has stated what she felt and whether it's covered by sub judice or not, like the comments made by both the prosecution and the defense—it is up to the impeachment court to make that decision," he added.
