MIRI – Polling has finally concluded in the flood-hit Baram parliamentary constituency with all polling stations there having concluded their operations.
Vote counting and tallying at the Marudi Civic Centre is also in its final stages, with most of the ballot boxes already opened and ballot papers being counted.
It is learnt that Gabungan Parti Sarawak candidate Datuk Anyi Ngau is leading PKR candidate Roland Engan and independent Wilfred Entila by about 6,000 votes as of 1pm.
Baram is one of the last parliamentary constituencies to finish polling. Another seat, Padang Serai, will see polls on December 7.
Rural constituency Baram has been struck by floods since the eve of polling.
Today, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Unit reported that floods are still ongoing, but the situation has improved overall as floodwaters continue to recede.
The floodwaters in most polling districts are reported to be only ankle-deep and no longer above a metre as was the case over the past three days. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
