Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday distributed appointment letters to employees recruited on compassionate grounds and medical health cards to contractual workers of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), saying the government was committed to delivering a “sensitive and transparent” system of governance under the motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”.
The event was organised at the NDCC Convention Centre on Jai Singh Road in the presence of Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra, Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal and other senior officials and council members.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the NDMC was not merely an institution but a family where employees, officers and public representatives worked together in service of the nation. She said the NDMC area represented the country’s administrative and democratic core and that its employees played an important role in shaping the image of the national capital.
Gupta said 109 families had received “new hope” through compassionate appointments, describing the jobs as long-term support systems that would provide stability and security to affected families. She also highlighted that nearly 90 women were among the beneficiaries.
“These appointments are not just jobs, but lifelong support systems that provide stability and security to the future of these families,” she said, adding that the selected candidates would contribute towards the vision of “Viksit Bharat, Viksit Delhi”.
The Chief Minister also termed the distribution of medical health cards to contractual employees under the LMHS scheme a major welfare measure, noting that rising medical expenses often place a heavy burden on families. The cashless medical facility, she said, would act as a protective shield for employees and their families.
Under the initiative, around 878 contractual employees working across 38 categories, including engineers, nurses, technical and clerical staff, will now be entitled to cashless treatment at NDMC-empanelled hospitals and diagnostic centres.
Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma said both initiatives reflected the government’s commitment towards employee welfare and social security. He said the measures had brought relief to families of deceased employees and reassurance to contractual workers who otherwise faced financial pressure during medical emergencies.
New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj described the move as a humanitarian initiative rather than merely an administrative exercise and said the decisions reflected the “compassionate leadership” of the Chief Minister.
NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra said the compassionate appointments reflected the civic body’s commitment to supporting families of deceased employees with dignity, financial stability and emotional support. He said the health card scheme marked a major step towards inclusiveness and employee welfare.
NDMC Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the welfare initiatives reflected the government’s sensitivity towards employees and appealed to citizens to support sustainable development measures such as public transport, carpooling, electric vehicles and energy conservation in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
