Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday laid the foundation stone for an ‘oxygen park’ to be developed over nearly three acres at Mukmelpur village in Burari. Gupta said the project would serve as a major green and recreational space for residents of outer Delhi.

Gupta said the project, aimed at promoting greenery, health and community engagement, would be developed at a total cost of Rs 2 crore, including Rs 1 crore sanctioned by the Forest Department and Rs 1 crore from her MLA discretionary fund.

Addressing residents at the stone-laying ceremony, Gupta said the park would be equipped with modern amenities and developed to a standard comparable to some of the best public parks in the national capital. “The Mukmelpur park will not merely be a green zone but a centre for healthy and positive living,” she said, adding that the Delhi Government would develop more oxygen parks in the city in the coming years.

According to officials, the park will include walking tracks, decorative energy-efficient lighting, huts for seating and relaxation, a landscaped pond, open lawns and a variety of trees and shrubs. The facility is expected to benefit residents from Mukmelpur as well as nearby areas such as Jindpur, Bakhtawarpur and Hiranki.

Gupta said the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were jointly working to increase green spaces and improve public amenities across the city. She added that such projects were important for improving quality of life and helping residents reconnect with nature amid rapid urbanisation.

Highlighting the government’s environmental initiatives, the CM said Delhi had set a target of planting over 70 lakh trees, shrubs and hedges this year as part of its green drive and under efforts linked to PM Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.

The CM also announced that development works worth Rs 20 crore had been approved for the Burari Assembly constituency, including sewer lines, drinking water pipelines and other civic infrastructure projects. She assured residents that the government would also provide financial assistance for covering a polluted drain in the area. Gupta further said projects worth nearly Rs 10,000 crore had already been initiated in villages and areas on the outskirts of Delhi, covering roads, drainage, transport, education and healthcare infrastructure
