With the slogan ‘Chalo Dilli’ and a renewed push to keep the spotlight on exam-related controversies, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has sought permission from the Delhi Police to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on June 20, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The outfit said it had completed all procedural requirements laid down by the police and was awaiting a final response on its application. The proposed gathering comes nearly two weeks after the party’s first demonstration at Jantar Mantar on June 6, which drew thousands of participants and was followed by similar protests in various cities, including Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Amritsar and Nagpur.

In a statement issued on June 18, the CJP said details of the proposed event, including volunteer strength and logistical arrangements, had been submitted to the authorities.

“We have formally intimated the Delhi Police of a peaceful demonstration and dharna at Jantar Mantar on June 20. The Delhi Police have said they will get back to us tomorrow morning. We are confident that the police will grant us permission for the protest,” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said.

Das, in a video statement released after meeting the police officials, said he spent the day at the Parliament Street police station completing formalities related to the proposed protest.
