Eighteen accused have been charge-sheeted under sections including unlawful assembly, rioting, and provisions of the SC/ST Act, while two remain absconding against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued, in connection with the murder of Tarun Kumar following Holi dispute in Uttam Nagar.

The Delhi Police have filed a detailed 500-page charge sheet before the Dwarka Court, naming a total of 20 accused in the case. Among them, two are minors who will be dealt with separately before the Juvenile Justice Board.

According to investigators, the incident was triggered by a prior dispute between the victim and some of the accused, which escalated on the day of Holi after an altercation over a water balloon. The situation quickly intensified, and the victim was allegedly chased and attacked by a group, leading to his death.

The police said the case drew attention due to the scale of the assault and the number of individuals allegedly involved. The incident also took a communal turn shortly after it occurred.

During the investigation, around 50 witnesses were examined. The charge sheet details the sequence of events, the roles attributed to each accused and the evidence collected, including eyewitness accounts, CCTV footage analysis and forensic findings.

Efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, the police added.
