Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Tuesday said India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 would depend on a strong partnership between an aware and vigilant society and future-ready legislatures capable of addressing emerging challenges.

Addressing Plenary Session-II of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region Zone-II (North Zone) Conference in Haryana, Gupta said a developed India could not be defined by economic growth alone, but by strong institutions, citizen awareness and a shared sense of national responsibility.

Highlighting India’s progress, Gupta cited achievements in digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, space technology and public service delivery, calling India one of the fastest-growing major economies. He said democratic institutions in India had remained strong despite rapid social and technological changes.

The Speaker also flagged key future challenges, including artificial intelligence, climate change, cybersecurity threats and rapid urbanisation, stressing that legislatures must adopt new tools and approaches to remain effective.
