
Two persons were killed, while five other suffered injuries in separate road accidents here in the past 24 hours.
In the first incident, a 55-year-old unidentified pedestrian died after an SUV hit him near the busy intersection at Rajouri Garden Chowk around 3.50 am on Sunday.
The police said the SUV driver, Harshit Raj Dogra (27), a resident of Ramesh Nagar, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The police said the victim was taken to Acharya Bhikshu Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Officials said efforts were underway to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
According to the preliminary investigation, Dogra was returning to his residence from Mansarovar Garden when the accident occurred. The police arrested the driver and seized his vehicle.
In another mishap, a woman died, while five others, including three children, suffered injuries in a road accident in the Vasant Kunj South police station area early on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Kripa Devi (47), while those suffered injuries are Vansh (8), Savitri Devi (60), Naina (34), Rahul (37), Naksh (14) and Ishan (2), all residents of Seelampur in Delhi.
According to the police, the incident took place around 4:25 am on the Rajokri flyover towards Gurugram when a speeding Toyota Innova rammed into a tempo
from behind.
The passengers travelling in the tempo were on their way to a temple in Gurugram. The tempo driver also suffered minor injuries.
The Innova driver was taken into custody. Further investigation is on to establish the exact circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
