MORE fish was unloaded in regional ports nationwide in January this year compared to 2025, according to data released by the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), a government agency attached to the Department of Agriculture.

A total of 40,459.91 metric tons (MT) of fish were delivered to regional ports at the start of the year, an almost 2.70-percent increase from the 39,399.10 MT in the same month last year.

The General Santos Fish Port Complex accounted for the largest unloading volume of 24,907.81 MT delivered in January, or 61.56 percent of total volume in all ports. This was also an increase from the 15,161.37 MT of the previous year.

Navotas, on the other hand, yielded 14,843.10 MT, a decline from 19,120.85 MT in the same month in 2025.

Iloilo, meanwhile, increased its delivery with 1,749.69 MT from the 1,591.91 MT last year.

Remarkably, Davao almost quadrupled its unloading, recording the biggest growth in fish deliveries among all ports with a 274.17-percent jump with 1,719.23 MT from the 459.47 MT a year earlier.

Lucena delivered 1,601.64 MT, up by a marginal 0.58 percent from the 1,592.37 MT last year.

Bulan posted 1,040.90 MT, although this was lower than the 1,126.55 MT in 2025.

Zamboanga, meanwhile, posted a 22.80 percent increase with 425.46 MT compared to 346.47 MT last year.

These regional fish ports continue to do their best to deliver enough supply of fish for clients and stakeholders, the PFDA said, adding it is upbeat on data for February, especially with the opening of the fishing season in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Palawan, and Visayan Sea waters.
