Delivery rider under investigation for racially offensive message sent via app

POLICE have launched an investigation into a food delivery rider accused of sending a racially offensive message to a customer via a delivery app, following a complaint lodged in Bukit Mertajam.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief Helmi Aris confirmed the probe is underway. “The police have opened an investigation file for this case, which is being probed under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

The incident reportedly involved a school teacher in Machang Bubok, who claimed to have received the inappropriate message from the rider through the app and subsequently lodged a police report.

Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, has called for firm action to be taken against the individual. “Such behaviour is completely unacceptable,” he said, urging authorities to apply the full force of the law.

The investigation continues as authorities gather further information surrounding the incident. - April 24, 2025
