Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau has criticized Umno Youth chief Dr. Akmal Saleh for his exaggerated response to the recent controversy surrounding 'Allah' socks, mockingly suggesting that Akmal should demand an apology from China over the matter.

In response to Akmal's call for a nationwide boycott of KK Mart, Tangau suggested that Akmal should escalate the issue to summoning China's ambassador to Malaysia. He highlighted the importance of proportionality in actions, noting KK Mart's swift action to remove the offending products and issue apologies.

"Why is their negligence treated as malice? Why demand or instruct both KK Mart and its supplier Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd to close down?" Tangau questioned, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach.

He humorously suggested that if Akmal believed in disproportionate actions for religious matters, then he should also demand an apology from China for allowing the production of the controversial socks in Yiwu, Zhejiang.

Tangau then shifted focus to the potential economic repercussions of the KK Mart boycott, warning that it could deter investors from Malaysia and lead to capital flight, particularly if negligence is met with severe punishment.

He urged Sabah and Sarawak to differentiate themselves from the divisive issues in West Malaysia by branding themselves as the 'Other Malaysia'—one that is reasonable, stable, inclusive, and embraces diversity. Tangau believes that this branding would attract investors, both domestic and foreign, who may be hesitant to invest in the peninsula due to ongoing controversies.

"While we Borneans are not good at producing grand narratives and slogans, we have been the real 'Madani' country even before Malaysia was formed," Tangau stated, highlighting the region's long-standing values of compassion, respect, and trust. He called on Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg to recognize the crisis and opportunity presented by the current situation.

Tangau's remarks underscore a call for rationality and balance in addressing sensitive issues, emphasizing the importance of considering broader implications and maintaining economic stability amid controversies.
