Demi Moore has made headlines her whole life, be it for her movies and professional choices or her relationships and former spouses. Her personal life has been back in the news ever since various accolades started coming her way for her performance in The Substance (2024).

Relishing the critical acclaim and a flurry of awards that have come her way, Moore has had a fantastic comeback. In fact, Demi Moore has talked extensively about her relationships and former spouses in her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, which explores her early life, difficult childhood and struggles of her youth.

Lately, however, Moore is enjoying being single and focusing on her comeback. Talking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Demi Moore shared details about her current relationship status, joking that her eccentricity is the reason behind her singlehood.

Talking about how she sleeps with her nine pet dogs, Moore quipped, “If anybody saw my nighttime routine, if it was filmed, they would really see how eccentric I really am.” She jokingly added, “Hence why I’m single!”

Demi Moore met American rock musician Freddy Moore when she was 17 and he was over 30. Still reeling from the death of her father, she jumped straight into marriage in 1980 with the singer-songwriter as a way to cope. She shared in her 2019 memoir, “My dad died in October. I turned eighteen in November. I got married to Freddy the following February. It was obviously a confusing and fraught time, and our wedding reflected the scattershot nature of the decision.”

The actor, who went by Demi Gene Guynes originally, also took on her husband’s last name as her stage name. Subsequently, she co-wrote three songs with him and appeared in a music video.

The relationship lasted until 1983, and Demi filed for a divorce in 1984, which was finalised in 1985. In her memoir, Demi confessed that their relationship ended due to her infidelity, although Freddy was quick to move on with a 14-year-old.

Prior to his relationship with Demi Moore, he was married to Lucy Colvin from 1971 to 1980. And, after Demi, he married Renee Schyjer in 2005.

However, the real reason for their breakup came to light much later with Moore’s memoir revelation about The Breakfast Club (1985) and Mission Impossible (1996) actor’s infidelity.

“Emilio and I had in fact just mailed out the invitations for our wedding when a friend told me she had seen him out with someone else in L.A.,” Moore wrote in her memoir. “He denied it, of course, but I was having a hard time trusting him: during a two-week breakup a few months before, he’d slept with an ‘ex’ girlfriend, lied about it and then been forced to tell me the truth when he found out she was pregnant,” she added.

The two, however, remained friends after their breakup and Moore even joined Estevez on the premiere of Stakeout (1987) where she met Bruce Willis.

After many turbulent relationships in her life, Demi Moore met Bruce Willis, and things progressed pretty quickly. “Bruce literally swept me off my feet: we met, married, and were pregnant within four months,” she wrote in her memoir.

Demi Moore was with Willis, one of her most famous spouses, for almost a decade, sharing three daughters, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. However, as time passed, Moore wrote that Willis became ambivalent about her work, which, according to him, took time away from their family. Subsequently, Willis, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors with credits in movies like Pulp Fiction (1994), 12 Monkeys (1995) and The Sixth Sense (1999), told her he was unsure if he wanted to be married.

In 1998, the two announced their separation. Their divorce was finalised in 2000 with an expensive settlement that got Moore some of her most prized assets that contribute towards her USD 200 million net worth today.

Despite their separation, Moore and Willis remain amicable. She wrote, “…wasn’t easy at first, but we managed to move the heart of our relationship, the heart of what created out family, into something new that gave the girls a loving, supportive environment with both parents.” Adding about her spouse, “We felt more connected than we did before the divorce.”

In fact, in a 2000 interview with Rolling Stone when asked about the reason behind his divorce from Demi Moore, Wills responded, “I haven’t figured it out yet. I still love Demi. We’re very close. We have three children whom we will continue to raise together, and we’re probably as close now as we ever were. We realize we have a lifelong commitment to our kids. Our friendship continues. The institution has been set aside.”

In 2022, Willis sought retirement due to dysphasia. He was also diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023. Moore remains supportive of Willis and his family during this challenging phase of his life.

She shared, “…like I could just go back in time and experience what it was like to be young, with him — much more so than I’d ever been able to experience it when I was actually in my twenties.”’

Soon after their relationship began, Moore was expecting. However, she lost the baby, whom she had intended to name Chaplin Ray, six months into the pregnancy. After the devastating loss, Moore struggled with alcohol abuse but remained with the No Strings Attached (2011) and Jobs (2013) star.

The two tied the knot in 2005 and among the few guests was Moore’s ex-husband Willis. Kutcher and Moore sought fertility treatments during their marriage, but she spiraled further into drinking and substance abuse. There were also reports of Kutcher cheating on her, which Moore confirmed later. Eventually, in 2011, the couple separated, and the divorce was finalised in 2013 as Kutcher began dating his That ‘70s Show (1998-2006) co-star Mila Kunis, whom he married later in 2015.
