Denmark's former queen Margrethe II has been hospitalized due to heart issues, the royal house said on Thursday.
The palace said the issue stemmed from a "heart spasm." Danish news agency Ritzau reported that Margrethe was suffering from angina pectrois, which usually manifests itself as chest pain, often resulting from obstruction of the arteries that supply the heart muscle.
The 86-year-old will remain in Copenhagen's Rigshospitalet university hospital over the weekend for observation and to undergo further examinations, according to the statement.
The queen was "tired, but in a good mood," it said.
Margrethe, who celebrated her 86th birthday on April 16, abdicated in early 2024, leaving her son Frederik to ascend the throne.
