
MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Sunday said it deployed personnel to investigate the collapse of a landfill in Rodriguez, Rizal last Friday.
The incident happened at the Rizal Provincial Sanitary Landfill, operated by the Green Leap Solid Waste Management, Inc. in Barangay San Isidro.
Personnel from the DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau office in Calabarzon were deployed to assess the extent of erosion and verify reports of missing individuals.
Green Leap Solid Waste Management, Inc. was ordered to implement slope stabilization activities and to provide a detailed action plan and daily status reports on the retrieval and rehabilitation activities. It was also directed to regulate the movement of heavy equipment in the area and restrict access to high-risk zones.
The DENR said it will hold a technical conference with Green Leap to discuss the details of the incident and its status of compliance to the conditions of its Environmental Compliance Certificate.
It added that it is ready to issue a Notice of Violation in case the results of their investigation showed that the operator has been non-compliant to the ECC’s conditions.
