Department looking for boy’s relatives

KUNAK: The Department of Social Welfare (JKM) here is looking for the relatives of a three-year-old boy named Mohammad Ajmal (pic).

The Protection Officer of the General Welfare Services Department in Kunak, Ku Yen Lee, the result of the initial investigation found that the child was three months old when he was handed over to a foster family on the grounds that the child’s biological mother, known only as Salha, wanted to return to her village in Tingkayu Kunak.

The child was handed over by his mother to the foster family in Kg. Sungai Atas in 2020 when the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced.

“However, until now, the child’s biological mother could not be contacted. The child is now three years old and is being well looked after by the custodial family,” she said.

Members of the public who knew the child’s next of kin or parents could contact the Kunak General Welfare Department at 089-851208 or 011-31626670.

The search for the child’s relatives or biological mother was being carried out in accordance with Section 15 of the Children Act 2001.
