Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Health Department is investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a new-born.

State Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said it received a complaint from the family involved.

“We are investigating,” she said, when asked on Tuesday.

The baby’s aunt in a Facebook posting alleged that the child’s mother was overdue but medical staff just asked her to “suppress” her contractions.

She claimed her sister tried fighting her contractions for 14 hours until she could no longer stand the pain. The doctors then allegedly gave her painkillers.

The woman claimed the patient suffered until someone came to check on the baby, only to find that its heartbeat had dropped greatly.

“That was when an emergency caesarean section was performed, but she woke up to find her baby dead,” she said.

She said none of the family members knew about the C-section and found it ridiculous when the nurses claimed they tried calling the husband six times but could not reach him.

“Our hearts are broken. You all played with the life of someone. The hospital is supposed to be responsible but you were careless,” she wrote.
