
Kota Kinabalu: The Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM) at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sabah marked a significant milestone, recently, with the receipt of ICT equipment (servers) worth RM2.2 million, generously contributed by the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (Jupem).
The handover, conducted via a direct disposal method, was officiated during the FSKM Career Pitch: Bridging Students and Industry programme held at Dewan Al-Bukhari, UiTM Sabah. The event brought together students, lecturers, and key industry players in a bid to strengthen industry-academic linkages.
Attending the event were representatives from prominent organisations including Cipta Impact Sdn Bhd, Sabah State Computer Services Department (JPKNS), Sri Komputer Sdn Bhd, Sabah State Education Department (JPNS), L.A.K Weighing System Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Meteorological Department, Einstronic Sdn Bhd, Scenic, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Celcom Timur (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Sabah, and Jupem.

“This contribution is a significant show of trust from Jupem towards FSKM. It reflects the faculty’s growing success in establishing strong industry linkages that benefit both students and the university,” she said.
Chairperson of the Career Pitch programme, Dr Munirah Rossdy, highlighted the importance of the contribution in elevating the event’s impact.
“Career Pitch FSKM serves as a platform to directly connect students with industry players.
“This year’s event is even more meaningful with Jupem’s generous RM2.2 million contribution, which will significantly impact students’ academic development and skill enhancement,” she said.
Student leader and President of the Computer Science Association (CoSA), Brandon Alexander Damianus, emphasised that the event was well-organised, enjoyable and filled with beneficial activities.
The event was officiated by Dr Dg Ku Habibah Ag Kee, Deputy Rector of Student Affairs and attended by Associate Professor Dr Viduriati binti Sumin, Deputy Rector of Research, Industry Network, Community and Alumni.
A special delegation from Jupem, led by L Sr Saiful Wazlan Wahab, took part in the ceremony, alongside Sr Shaffri Baudi and Sr Dr Tang Kieh Ming. Also present was Mohd Salim Japaran from Yayasan Sabah’s Education Development Division, a contributor to the programme’s success.
The server equipment is expected to significantly enhance UiTM Sabah’s teaching, research, and digital infrastructure – particularly in Computer Science – by providing students and faculty with improved access to high-performance computing resources aligned with industry standards.
UiTM Sabah extended its sincere gratitude to Jupem for its commitment to supporting higher education and expressed hope that the collaboration would lead to further strategic partnerships between academia and industry.
