MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) will investigate the possible influence of a “true crime community” on the student involved in the school shooting in Banga, South Cotabato, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said Saturday.
“That is really what we want to investigate because we are not familiar with that,” Angara said in Filipino during an ambush interview.
Angara said DepEd would seek assistance from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in examining the matter.
He said the student appeared to have been influenced by someone but stressed that he was unsure about the authenticity of a letter he had read that he believed was written by the student.
Angara said the letter appeared to indicate that the student knew what he was about to do was wrong but proceeded after allegedly being convinced by someone.
