Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh has confirmed that there have been no complaints or reports regarding the deduction of Early Schooling Aid by schools since it was distributed nationwide on January 10. Addressing the press after officiating the 2024 Perak Early Schooling Aid presentation ceremony at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Yuk Choy, Wong stated that while there were deductions reported last year, there have been no such reports this year.
"In the past, the Education Ministry (MoE) received complaints about deductions in aid for school fees and related expenses. However, this year we have not received any complaints. We have made it clear to all schools that the assistance, amounting to RM150 per student, must reach the parents or students to ease the burden of preparing for school," Wong explained.
During the ceremony, Wong presented RM48.8 million in aid to Perak Education director Datuk Muhamad Fauzi Mahson. This aid is intended for distribution to 325,162 students in 1,104 schools across the state. Wong expressed his hope for a smooth distribution process until the final date of February 10.
Last year, on October 16, the MoE announced an allocation of RM788 million for the aid, benefiting 5.25 million students nationwide. The aid, provided in a single payment, is channeled through schools to be distributed either in cash or credited to the respective accounts of each student's parents.
Wong emphasized the importance of ensuring that the aid reaches its intended recipients without any deductions. The aid is aimed at alleviating the financial burden on parents and students as they prepare for the school year.
With the distribution process underway, Wong urged schools to adhere to the guidelines set by the ministry to ensure that the aid is disbursed in a timely and transparent manner. He reiterated that any issues or concerns regarding the distribution of the aid should be promptly reported to the ministry for swift resolution.
The Deputy Education Minister's reassurance comes as a relief to many parents and students who rely on the Early Schooling Aid to cover essential expenses associated with the new academic year. The aid plays a crucial role in supporting families and promoting access to education for all students across the country.
As the distribution of the aid continues, the ministry remains committed to monitoring the process closely to ensure that every eligible student receives the full amount without any deductions. The successful implementation of the aid program reflects the government's ongoing efforts to prioritize education and support the well-being of students and their families.
