PUTRAJAYA, Sept 12 — Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin will make his maiden working visit to Hong Kong for the 8th Belt and Road Summit.

He will be a panellist in the Policy Dialogue II session titled Belt and Road Initiative as a Catalyst for Regional Cooperation and Development, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement today.

Themed Prospering on a Decade of Collaboration, the summit gathers regional leaders and senior government officials as well as influential business leaders to promote business collaboration along the Belt and Road Initiative.

During his two-day maiden visit from today until Thursday, Mohamad will be meeting Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po to exchange views on the current state of bilateral cooperation and follow up on the implementation of several agreements reached between the leaders during Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s visit to Malaysia in July.

The Deputy Minister will also meet with the Malaysian diaspora in Hong Kong during the visit, the statement read.

Hong Kong is one of Malaysia’s top trading partners.

Last year, it was Malaysia’s ninth largest trading partner with total trade valued at RM113.2 billion – an increase of 20 per cent from 2021.
