Dewan Rakyat to address defence data leak, veterans’ welfare and youth talent development

THE government’s handling of a reported breach involving the sale of Malaysia’s tactical defence information to foreign parties will come under scrutiny in the Dewan Rakyat today, as Parliament enters its third day of debate on Budget 2026.

According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament’s official website, Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (PN–Ketereh) is set to question the Defence Minister on measures taken to contain the fallout and restore public confidence following the media reports.

Meanwhile, V. Ganabatirau (PH–Klang) will press the ministry to detail initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and upskilling of Armed Forces retirees, and to disclose how many former personnel have benefitted.

In a separate question, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (PN–Indera Mahkota) will seek clarification from the Youth and Sports Minister on the implementation of early-stage talent identification programmes in high-performance sports, particularly at the primary school level, and the extent of parental and institutional support for athletic development.

Following the oral question session, MPs will continue the policy stage debate on the Supply Bill 2026, which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday.

The RM419.2 billion federal budget allocates RM338.2 billion for operating expenditure and RM81 billion for development.

The policy stage debate is scheduled to run for eight days, from 13 to 28 October, followed by the committee stage from 5 to 27 November. - October 15, 2025
