Dhaka seeks clarity on arrests of bangladeshis in Malaysia over militancy allegations

DHAKA has voiced concern following the recent arrests of Bangladeshi nationals in Malaysia on suspicion of terrorism, and says it will work closely with Kuala Lumpur to examine the allegations.

According to a report by United News of Bangladesh (UNB), Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said the government was committed to uncovering the facts and would engage with Malaysian authorities to facilitate a full investigation.

The matter was raised during a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in Kuala Lumpur, held on the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) ministerial gathering.

“The government of Bangladesh will work with Malaysia to investigate allegations of militancy against Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested by the Malaysian police,” Hossain was quoted as saying by Bernama-UNB.

He also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong opposition to terrorism and sought Malaysia’s support in the form of information sharing and investigative cooperation.

Adviser Hossain said Dhaka would “coordinate and exchange findings” with Malaysian authorities as part of a transparent and thorough process.

In response, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan assured Dhaka of his government’s cooperation and pledged to facilitate access to information for the Bangladeshi side. - July 12, 2025
