West Ham great Paolo di Canio is convinced Antonio Conte was determined to talk his way out of the Tottenham job.
Conte left Spurs by mutual consent a fortnight ago.
Reflecting on the situation, Di Canio said on Sky Italia: "Antonio did everything to get fired and not resign. Everything is legitimate, he didn't want to give up an important contract.
"His words were a bit instinctive and a bit calculated against a club that has paid him a lot and not let him down.
"The dissatisfaction was legitimate, maybe he misses Italy. I'm sorry for how it happened."
