DICT activates 100 free Wi-Fi sites in Region 2

THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on July 14 activated the Ilagan Government Network (GovNet Ilagan), connecting 100 free Wi-Fi sites across Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), which covers Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.

GovNet Ilagan is part of the government’s National Broadband Program, Free Wi-Fi for All initiative.

For years, geographic distance and uneven digital infrastructure limited delivery of government services in Ilagan City, Isabela. Slow and unreliable connectivity hindered coordination among agencies, delayed access to critical services, and reduced operational efficiency across dispersed offices and facilities.

GovNet Ilagan interconnects 51 government facilities and agencies across the city, providing a unified digital infrastructure that improves coordination, expedites transactions, and strengthens government responsiveness.

Connected sites include local government offices, public schools, rural health units, state colleges and universities, and other essential public service institutions.

The network enables secure data exchange, real-time coordination, and reliable access to online services for frontline agencies and the communities they serve.

The initiative will be complemented with the additional 100 free Wi-Fi sites in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya. This will further expand the accessibility of government services while narrowing the digital divide through expanded internet access.

Beneficiaries will see concrete benefits such as faster processing of transactions, improved access to information, and more timely delivery of public services.

Schools and health facilities gain dependable connectivity and data-sharing capabilities, supporting enhanced learning, telehealth services, and faster responses to community needs.

The network is especially valuable for geographically challenged areas where dependable connectivity is critical for service continuity.

The activation of GovNet Ilagan and launching of additional free Wi-Fi sites reaffirms the DICT’s commitment to expand reliable digital infrastructure nationwide.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda emphasized connectivity as a fundamental public service, that the quality of service shouldn’t depend on where one lives. “This is what we want every Filipino to feel — a government that’s closer, more reliable, and more ready to help,” he said.
