INFORMATION and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda denied on Tuesday that he has resigned, saying circulating reports were fake news.
“I deny the false reports and speculations that I have resigned from my position as Secretary of the DICT. The agency has been steadfast in its efforts to combat disinformation and the spread of fake news, and this latest rumor is yet another example of how false narratives can be weaponized to sow confusion and undermine public trust,” Aguda said in a statement.
He noted that the rumors could be possible attacks by people or groups who do not like what the DICT is doing.
“While unfortunate, these attacks are unsurprising given the Department’s recent gains and successes in pushing meaningful digital transformation initiatives that directly benefit the Filipino people,” Aguda said.
He added that as a Cabinet member, he continues to serve at the pleasure of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and remains fully committed to carrying out the mandate entrusted to him.
“Overall, the DICT remains focused on the important work ahead in accelerating digital transformation, expanding connectivity, and ensuring that digitalization initiatives translate into meaningful and inclusive benefits for all,” Aguda said.
Previously, online reports surfaced saying Aguda has resigned, but no specific reasons were mentioned.
