Bersatu has firmly denied the release of several statements that allegedly suggested the party and Perikatan Nasional had issued an apology to the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. The party clarified this on its official Facebook page, where it posted the two supposed press statements, labeling them as fabrications.

One of the counterfeit statements falsely claimed that Bersatu had extended an apology to the Sultan of Pahang concerning a speech made by Perikatan Nasional's chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, during the Nenggiri by-election that concluded recently. The party was quick to discredit these claims, urging the public to be cautious and not spread misinformation.

"Do not spread fake news. If you're unsure, refrain from sharing," Bersatu stated in its social media post on Monday, August 19.

The controversy began after a video clip went viral, showing Muhyiddin speaking at a ceramah in Felda Perasu on August 15. In the clip, Muhyiddin appeared to question the decision of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong to appoint Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister following the 15th general election. The remarks sparked significant backlash, with numerous parties condemning Muhyiddin's comments.

As the situation escalated, at least 29 police reports were filed against Muhyiddin. He is expected to provide his statement to the police on Tuesday, August 20, as part of the investigation into his remarks. Despite the uproar, Muhyiddin has stood by his comments, arguing that his statements were merely factual and not intended to insult the royal institution or the Malay Rulers.

Muhyiddin has also assured that he will fully cooperate with the police in their ongoing investigation, reaffirming his respect for the royal institution and clarifying that his speech was not meant to offend or undermine the authority of the Sultan or the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

This incident highlights the sensitive nature of discussions surrounding the monarchy in Malaysia, especially in the context of political discourse. It serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly in the digital age, where misinformation can easily spread and cause significant repercussions.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes will be on the developments surrounding this case, particularly in how it will affect the political landscape and the relationships between political parties and the royal institution in Malaysia. The situation underscores the ongoing tensions and the need for careful navigation in political communication within the country.
