From Versace to Pretty Little Thing, has Naomi Campbell downgraded her status as a pioneer in the modelling industry?
The world renowned legendary supermodel and activist who graced the runways for the biggest fashion brands, has recently launched a collaboration with Pretty Little Thing (PLT).
The collection is set to intertwine the essence of PLT with her unique style, promising another dimension of fashion like never before.
However the base of PLT, a fast fashion company, is a mass production of low cost and low quality, unethical habits like stealing designs from smaller independent companies, green washing, and exploitative working environments.
Ever since the announcement was made, many fans have been wondering what could possibly be the case that caused these two worlds to collide.
From owning the covers of Vogue, to the upcoming of the supermodel’s documentary releasing soon, and preparing to host Vogue World London… is Naomi Campbell racking up her accolades, counting her cheques and stocking up to step down? There are hundreds of brands that the British model could’ve chosen to work with, such as Prada, Valentino, Fendi, some even suggested Coach, but why with PLT?
Some came up with the conclusion that she might be looking to cause some supporting controversy before launching her upcoming documentary.
For the record, Dr Naomi Campbell started her career in 1985 as she signed a contract with the Synchro modelling agency at age 15, Naomi Campbell has gone on to become one of Britain's most successful models. On her 16th birthday, she made the front cover of British ELLE and became the first black model to appear on British and French Vogue. and became a household name that’s globally known as a legend.
From wearing a £50,000 worth of masterpieces, to walking down the runway wearing a £85 pounds dress, Naomi is now the new Creative Director of a fast fashion clothing line, ‘Pretty Little Thing’.
It was seen that she was guided by two young emerging designers, Edvin Thompson and Victor Anate, where they showcase the 70 piece collection that is already available to purchase on the official website.
When questioned by a reporter for conquering the position, the 53-year-old model gave a statement saying “White models, when they’ve done fast fashion, they were praised” stating that her race is the reason for being attacked.
While some viewers believe that as a pioneer of the luxury fashion brands, Naomi should’ve at least made a better decision, especially when the model is an advocate for human rights.
